The Cole family’s connection to the land is helping shape what comes next at Cole Ranch. A recent Community Impact feature explores that legacy and the vision for a 3,100-acre master-planned community in Denton, where native landscapes, family history and neighborhood gathering places are central to the plans.
The story looks at how ranch traditions are influencing future community events, how the historic homestead is inspiring design details, and how Doings in Denton will introduce future residents to local businesses and familiar places.

There is already hands-on work behind that vision. According to the University of North Texas, students and volunteers have participated in rotating workdays since September 2025, collecting native grasses, flowering plants and soil from areas where relocation is needed.
The plants are being cared for temporarily, with plans to return them to Cole Ranch as parks, trails and landscaped areas take shape. Significant prairie areas identified for preservation will remain in place. This work connects the community’s future landscape to the plants and ecology already found on the ranch.

A private groundbreaking with the Cole family and development team took place June 3, 2026. Plans include approximately 1,200 acres of green space, at least 26 miles of trails, parks and two amenity centers.
Johnson Development’s June update anticipated home sales beginning in late 2027. That remains a projected timeline, rather than an announced opening date.
For those following the community’s progress, the next chapter will unfold through development updates, preservation stories and future home announcements.
